We are sad to learn of the passing of Ron Hornby.
Ron was a Senior Scout Leader in the Group way back in the late 1960’s. The writer remembers him as a kind and gentle man. He was instrumental in helping the Scouts build their first kayak. In those days the materials used were wood and canvas – fibre glass and plastic were still in the future as far as kayak construction was concerned. We were fortunate in acquiring some pvc sheeting from Storey Brothers that they were in the process of developing and this proved to be just the right material for the job. Many happy hours were enjoyed paddling the finished product around the local waterways.
Sons Peter and Andrew were both Scouts in the Troop.
Ron died on Thursday 28 July in New Zealand.
Our thoughts are with Nancy and the family at this sad time.
